Too many women leave incarceration without the tools, connections, or encouragement needed to succeed.
Grief goes unaddressed. Resources go unexplained. Hope fades.
We believe reentry should not start at the prison gate—it should begin long before release.
By offering emotional support, practical information, and trusted relationships inside correctional facilities, we help women prepare for life beyond incarceration with dignity, clarity, and purpose.
Each month, TURRN hosts Hope Helps, a one-hour pre-release session at the Birmingham Women’s Correctional Facility. These gatherings bring women together for encouragement, reflection, and preparation. Each session includes:
* An uplifting song and inspirational poem
* Encouragement to use incarceration time productively through learning trades or earning certifications
* Information about community resources available upon release
* Honest conversations focused on healing, growth, and forward movement
Hope Helps meets women where they are—emotionally, spiritually, and practically.
Inmate Closure Support
Grief does not pause during incarceration.
TURRN supports quarterly inmate closure services for women who have lost loved ones while incarcerated. These services provide a safe, supportive space for grieving, remembrance, and emotional processing—helping women begin healing rather than carrying unresolved pain into reentry.

The inspiration behind TURRN stems from my mother Chaplain Dorothy Presley, who has dedicated nearly two decades to serving incarcerated women. Her journey started as a volunteer chaplain, where she witnessed firsthand the painful cycle of recidivism. Too many women, upon release, found themselves returning to prison—not due to a lack of will to change, but because they faced overwhelming barriers with insufficient support for incarcerated individuals. She quickly recognized that a one-size-fits-all approach simply did not work; each woman faced unique challenges that required individualized care.
From this realization, TURRN was established. Grounded in my mother’s profound understanding of the struggles encountered by incarcerated women, the organization was created to address a crucial need for recidivism reduction. TURRN’s mission is to provide personalized resources and guidance that empower women to break free from the cycle of re-entry, rebuild their lives, and move forward with dignity and hope. At its core, TURRN stands as a testament to my mother’s unwavering commitment, her belief in the power of volunteer opportunities, and the idea that with the right support, lasting positive change is not only possible—it is inevitable.
